Two home runs, errors lift Asheville over Hickory

Asheville pounded out 11 hits and capitalized off of four Hickory errors on defense to pick up the 9-4 victory over the Crawdads on Friday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Jared Simon paced the Tourists (5-4) with a 2-for-3 night from the plate, including two runs scored and two RBIs. His home run off of Hickory starting pitcher Jerad Eickoff powered a four-run fifth inning that put Asheville up for good in the contest.

After Hickory took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of a Christopher Grayson double and Hanser Alberto single, the Tourists regained the lead in the top of the second inning.

Ryan Casteel grounded out to plate Simon, Tyler Massey scored on a throwing error by Hickory (6-3) and Delta Clearly's single plated Rosell Herrera to make it a 3-2 Asheville lead.

The Tourists added four runs in the fifth inning, including Simon's home run, but the Crawdads fought back in the bottom half of the frame.

Rougned Odor, who scored Grayson on a single in the fifth, later skipped across home plate for another Hickory run on a sac fly by Alberto to left field.

There was no more scoring in the contest until the top of the ninth inning when Asheville's Trevor Story hit a two-run blast to pad the Tourists' lead for good.

Hickory and Asheville play the third and final game of a three-game series at L.P. Frans on Saturday. The first 1,000 fans through the gate receive an Eric Church bobblehead doll. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
