Thieves take wiring from business, home

Police are looking for thieves who stole thousands of dollars in aluminum wire from a furniture plant in Conover.

Workers at Southern Furniture in Conover reported a large amount of wiring stripped from its No. 2 plant earlier this week. Conover police say they are still looking for the suspect.

Authorities think the suspects turned off power to the plant first and then cut and removed about $1,000 in aluminum wire.

The theft occurred sometime between April 6-9, according to a Conover Police Department incident report.

The theft is one of nearly a dozen wiring or copper larcenies that have occurred at area manufacturing plants and homes in recent years.

Wire thieves also hit a Catawba home this week, stealing about $600 worth of copper wiring and pipe from a residence on Long Island Road. Police say the suspects broke into a residence at 6478 Long Island Road in Catawba and cut the wire and pipe.

Anyone with information on the thefts are urged to contact the Conover Police Department at 828-464-4698 or the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at 828-464-5241.
