St. Stephens' Molli Huffman signs with Surry C.C.

St. Stephens softball player Molli Huffman made her college decision official on Thursday.

The senior catcher signed to play next fall for Surry Community College.

“It’s a privilege. It really is,”said Huffman during Thursday’s signing. “All those years of dedication where my parents took me to all of those ball fields and all of those coaches that helped me out. It means a lot to me that I can actually go play softball in college.”

Huffman has improved statistically each of her first three seasons with the Lady Indians. Her batting average has risen from .176 in 2010 to .254 in 2011 and .347 last season. She drove in 11 batters in 2012 on 26 hits.

Defensively, Huffman has thrown out a total of 12 batters in her SSHS career.

The Surry Community College Lady Knights ended the 2011-12 campaign under coach Amber Reid last fall with a 19-24 record.

“I really liked their coach,” Huffman said of why she chose SCC. “She is really nice. I’ve heard so much about their program, how good they are and how much the girls get along. I like it up there.”

Huffman was happy to have the support of her friends and teammates at
Thursday’s signing.

“It means a lot that they actually would come out here and just be here for me in this big moment,”she said.
