PREP NOTEBOOK: Trojans stay perfect in CVAC

The Bandys volleyball team remains undefeated in Catawba Valley 2A play with a three-set victory over Bunker Hill on Thursday 25-15, 25-8 and 25-23.

Kate Barrow made 16 aces for the Lady Trojans (5-4, 4-0), while Sierra Brotherton tallied seven kills, six blocks and two aces.

Megan Fair led Bunker Hill (2-9, 1-3) with 13 digs and nine kills. Krissy Helms also added 19 assists.

Fred T. Foard 3, Alexander Central 0

The Lady Tigers picked up their sixth win of the season and second in conference play in three sets Thursday against the Lady Cougars 25-21, 25-11 and 25-17.

Foard (6-2, 2-1) was led by Madison Hayes, who had nine kills, while Morgan Smith had six kills.

Rebecca Scott recorded 15 assists and five service aces also for the Lady Tigers, and Kaitlin Sigmon made 10 digs defensively.

Maiden 3, Draughn 0

The Lady Blue Devils bounced back from a loss on Wednesday to stay near the top of the CVAC standings with a three-set victory over the Lady Wildcats on Thursday 25-8, 25-23 and 25-11.

Mckenzie Garrison led Maiden (7-3, 3-1) with 16 kills, while Hannah Martin and Rachel Houston tallied seven kills each.

Defensively, Kha Xiong made two blocks.

St. Stephens 3, South Caldwell 1

The Lady Indians picked up another Northwestern 3A/4A win on Thursday in a competitive four-set match against the Lady Spartans 25-17, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-21.

Katelyn Houser led St. Stephens (9-1, 2-1) with 24 assists, 25 digs and six aces. Breanna Hall made 17 kills, while Jenna Boliek recorded 16 kills.

Fred T. Foard 2, South Point

The Tigers picked up their seventh shutout and ninth win of the season against the visiting Red Raiders.

Tied 0-0 at halftime, Foard (9-0-0) got two second-half goals from Kenan Ruffner — one unassisted and the other off an assist from Scottie Whitman — to come away victorious.

Alexander Central 1, Bunker Hill 0

The Cougars came away with a close shutout victory in Taylorsville on Thursday against the Bears.

Omar Chavez recorded five saves in goal for Bunker Hill (2-2-1).
