Top-seeded Draughn, along with South Iredell, Maiden and Bunker Hill, advanced to the second round of the Catawba Valley 2A baseball tournament.

The Wildcats play the Vikings today at 4:30 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium, while the Blue Devils and Bears play in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

Top seeds advance in CVAC softball bracket

The top four seeds in the Catawba Valley 2A softball bracket advanced to Friday's semifinal games at East Burke High School.

Bandys and Maiden, who were impressive in shutout fashion in the first round, meet in one of two semifinal games.

Bunker Hill, who hung on for a close victory against East Burke, takes on second-seeded Draughn in the second semifinal contest.

Northwestern 3A/4A softball tournament

No. 3 St. Stephens 4, No. 2 Fred T. Foard 1 (eight innings)

Behind a three-run top of the eighth inning, the Indians advanced to the conference tournament title game, taking down the defending-champion Lady Tigers.

Taylor Lail led St. Stephens with a solo home run in the game.

St. Stephens' Katie Baker tossed eight innings, striking out five and allowing one unearned run and seven hits.

Lexi Shubert pitched eight innings for Foard (19-4), allowing five hits, one earned run and struck out 14 batters.

The Northwestern 3A/4A baseball tournament semifinals take place today at M.S. Deal Stadium in Granite Falls. The winners advance to Saturday's championship game, also at M.S. Deal.

St. Stephens 3, Lincolnton 0

In a rare late-season conference tilt, the Lady Indians picked up a shutout victory against the Lady Wolves.

Alex Roarke, Kalyn Meosky and Macy Franklin each pocketed goals for St. Stephens (17-1-2).

Olivia Holmes assisted on two of those goals, while Meosky helped on the other goal.

Taylor Logan picked up the shut out in goal for Saint.
