PREP NOTEBOOK: Maiden wins second CVAC game

Maiden improved to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play with a win over Bandys in boys basketball on Friday, 56-36.

Matt Johnson led all Blue Devil scorers with 15 points, while Jason Gantt pitched in 11 points.

Colton Medlin scored a game-high 17 points in the loss for Bandys (1-13, 0-5)

Fred T. Foard 68, Hibriten 54

The Tigers (11-4, 1-3) ended a 27-game conference losing streak by knocking off the Panthers on the road.

Jordan Turner scored 25 points, while Brice Falgout added 14 points in the victory for Foard.

Hibriten, who falls to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the NWC, received 32 points from Jordan Rutherford.

Hickory 85, South Caldwell 47

The Red Tornadoes (12-2, 2-0) continued their dominance with a win against the Spartans (6-6, 1-2).

Dereck Barnes scored a game-high 13 points to lead Hickory, while Darius Malbon and Jalen Byrd each added 10 points in the game.

Conner Drum led South Caldwell with 10 points.

Girls basketball

Bandys 73, Maiden 51

The Lady Trojans improved to 14-0 on the season with a victory against visting Maiden on the basketball court.

Madi Story led all scorers with 24 points, while Chelsey Queen added 14 points and four assists. Taylor Sigmon also played an impressive game with 13 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four steals.

Sabrien Gaither netted 20 points for Maiden (5-7, 0-4) and Taylor Coulter chipped in 11 points.

Fred T. Foard 60, Hibriten 37

Brooke Robinson scored 21 points and grabbed 14 points, leading the Lady Tigers to their first Northwestern 3A/4A victory of the season.

Foard improves to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while Hibriten falls to 4-7 and 1-2 in the NWC.

Keisha Corpening led the Panthers with 19 points.

Hickory 53, South Caldwell 37

Yazmin Hannah scored 13 points and Aja Hoyle added 12 points, leading the Lady Red Tornadoes to their 14th victory of the season against the Lady Spartans.

Hannah and Hoyle were two of four players that reached double-digits in scoring for Hickory (14-1, 3-0), including Eric Troutman (11 points) and Danaisha Witherspoon (10 points).

Amber Gross led South Caldwell (7-6, 3-1) with nine points in the game.
