PREP NOTEBOOK: Lady Trojans win sixth straight

Bandys (6-3, 5-1) won their sixth softball game in a row with a 6-0 shutout victory against East Burke on Wednesday.

Sara Boyd and Rachel Cox each drove in two RBIs, while Breanna Jones and Kathleen Reardon each drove in an RBI.

Taylor Sigmon earned the victory on the mound, striking out three batters, walking two and allowing nine hits.2

Fred T. Foard 3, Watauga 0

Cierra Shull, Ashley Oliver and Lexi Shubert each drove in an RBI to lead the Lady Tigers to their 12th straight victory.

Shubert pitched seven innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out 13 batters.

Bunker Hill 9, Maiden 0

Kadi O'Shell pitched a shutout, leading the Lady Bears to the conference victory against the Lady Blue Devils.

O'Shell and teammate Brittany Travis led Bunker Hill (5-2, 4-1) with three hits each, while Desirae Bebber had two hits and two RBIs. Anna Williams also had a three-run homer in the fifth inning.

South Iredell 5, Newton-Conover 3

The Vikings picked up a road conference victory in Newton over the Red Devils on Wednesday, erasing a two-run deficit in the third on their way to the win.

Colby Dishman led South Iredell with an RBI on two of the Vikings' six hits.

Newton-Conover falls to 2-7 overall, including a 1-4 mark in conference play.

Bunker Hill 11, Maiden 1

Jordan Eckard drove in four RBIs, including a three-run homer to lift the Bears to the five-inning victory against the Blue Devils.

Bunker Hill pitcher Jason Setzer allowed two hits, including one each by Maiden's Jason Gantt and Luke Setzer, on his way the victory.

The Bears improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the Catawba Valley 2A, while Maiden falls to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the CVAC.

Bandys 12, East Burke 3

Hunter Harvey hit a grand slam and drove in five RBIs to lead the Trojans to the conference victory against the Cavaliers.

Holden Pender and Seth Hubbard also had two hits offensively for Bandys (8-3, 4-2)

Trojans pitcher Logan Beegle earned the victory on the mound.

Bandys 4, East Burke 1

Bandys took a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back, improving to 8-2-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Catawba Valley 2A.

Four different Bandys player netted goals, including Angelina Hernandez, Cassidy Winchester, Monica Mayer and Katie Spaulding.

Winchester also picked up an assist, as well as Maddie Callaghan and Rachel Medina.

Maria Carinci was the winning keeper with five saves, surrendering a lone goal in the 43rd minute to East Burke's Kelsie Thomas.

Maiden 5, Bunker Hill 2 (double OT)

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Lady Blue Devils (1-5-1, 1-3-1) rallied with three goals from Katie Foster and two from Rachel Pritchard to win their first game of the season.

Alondra Zavala and Patricia Chavez both pocketed goals for Bunker Hill (1-11-0, 0-4-0) in the first half.

St. Stephens 4, Hickory 0

The Lady Indians (8-1-1, 4-0-0) picked up a crucial conference victory, beating the Lady Red Tornadoes (9-4-0, 4-1-0) in a game suspended from this past Friday.

Olivia Holmes scored two goals before the delay last Friday, while Macy Franklin and Breanna Hall netted scores in continuation action on Wednesday.
