PLAYOFF ROUND-UP: Trojans top Cavs again

For the second time this season, the Bandys football team knocked off East Burke in Catawba on Friday night, 34-7.

In the process, the Trojans (8-4) advance to the second round of the 2AA playoffs.

Quarterback Anthony Toscano completed 7-of-8 passes for 97 yards and three touchdowns for Bandys, while running back Devan Davis rushed 20 times for 129 yards.

The lone score of the game for the Cavaliers (5-8) came on their opening drive when Elijah Reese connected with Robbie McGee on a 17-yard scoring pass with 6:58 left in the first quarter.

Following the East Burke score, Toscano threw a pair of touchdown passes on the next two Trojans drives. He connected with Hunter Lackey from 34 yards out and Colton Medlin from 20 yards away.

The two touchdown throws were the first of 34-straight points by Bandys, including a pair of field goals by Travis Kiser and a three-yard touchdown run by Dylan Street and Toscano's third touchdown pass to Lackey.

Bandys' defense gave up only 123 yards of offense to East Burke, including 79 yards in the first half and 44 in the second half. East Burke tallied only seven first downs all night and were 1-for-8 on third down.

Bandys travels to Newton-Conover next Friday in the 2AA playoffs second round. The Trojans lost to the Red Devils 35-14 on Sept. 21.

Hickory 35, Hibriten 17

Jordan Lockhart tallied 195 yards on the ground on four touchdowns, leading the Red Tornadoes (8-4) to the second round of the 3A playoffs over the Panthers (7-5).

Hickory quarterback Matt Williams added 118 rushing yards and a touchdown in the win.

The Panthers got as close as four points to the lead when Davone Jones ran 28 yards for a score to cut his team's deficit to 21-17 in the third quarter.

The only negative note for the Red Tornadoes came when Mailk Linebarger was injured and taken to hospital after an apparent concussion. The injury delayed the contest 15 minutes.

Hickory will play at Burns next week in the postseason's second round. The game rematch from last year's second round of the playoffs, which Burns won, 44-14.
