Man dies in Raleigh police custody

Police in Raleigh say a man they took into custody died a short time later.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said in a statement that officers responded to a report of a disturbance around 5:30 a.m. Monday. Sughrue says an adult male who was taken into custody died at the scene shortly after being detained.

The State Law Enforcement Division has been asked to handle the case.

No other details were immediately available.
