Indians down to two football coaching candidates

St. Stephens High School has narrowed its list of varsity football head coaching candidates to two names after a total of 51 persons applied for the Indians job.

“We completed the first round of interviews the week prior to our Easter Break,” said Indians interim athletic director Amy Rucker. “We have asked that a couple of the candidates return this week for a second interview and to have an opportunity to meet the assistant football coaches.”

Rucker said she hopes by the end of this week that the school will have a name to present at its board meeting on April 22.

The school originally set a March 28 deadline to hire its next football coach.

St. Stephens High School has been without a varsity football head coach since Feb. 11 when Chris Bunting stepped down from his post to take an assistant coaching position at Clover High School in South Carolina.

The next football coach chosen to lead the Indians program will be the third in three years, joining Bunting (2012) and Fred Whalen (2011).
