Foard's McGinnis signs with Emory & Henry

The transformation from Tiger to Wasp started Friday for Katheryn McGinnis.

The Foard senior soccer player signed her National Letter of Intent to play for Emory & Henry this fall.

“I’m really, really excited,” McGinnis said. “It’s something I’ve always looked forward to as a kid growing up — getting to play first at the varsity level and now at college. I’m very excited that my dream is coming true.”

A four-year member of the Lady Tigers varsity squad, McGinnis earned all-conference honors last season and the coaches’ award in 2010.
She has scored 16 career goals and assisted in 11 goals at her center mid position.

Foard girls soccer coach Stan Elliott is proud of his senior’s achievement.

“As a coach, it is a privilege and a pleasure to see and coach girls like her,” Elliott said. “She’s a special one. I always like seeing girls go on and play at the next level. To be a small part of that as a soccer coach and influence her life is a positive thing. That’s why I do what I do. She’s a great girl, on and off the field. She’s going to do great things later on. It’s been fun. Time flies. Four years time goes by fast.”

A few perks attracted McGinnis to E&H.

“I knew I could definitely play soccer there.,” she said. “Academically, it fits everything I want. I love the country, too. It’s right near the mountains, and I love the outdoors.”

McGinnis transitioned her position recently and will play center back for the Tigers this spring.

She said she hopes to leave the Foard soccer team on a high note.

“My career here at Foard has been great,” she said. “Obviously, we have a great coach and a great team. I’m glad I was able to make and start varsity for all four years. I love the girls. We’ve came really far. I’m excited for my last season.”
