Deglan's walk off homer lifts 'Dads past Tourists, 6-5

Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the ninth, Hickory catcher Kellin Deglan smacked a two-run homer to right field to lift the Crawdads to a dramatic 6-5 victory over the visiting Asheville Tourists at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday.

The walkoff by Deglan is the team's eighth this season โ€” the most for the club in any season since 2005.

Hickory (25-21, 61-54) trailed 3-0 after the first inning, but rallied to tie the contest with a three-run bottom of the fourth that included an RBI double by Zach Cone, an RBI single from Drew Robinson and an RBI groundout by Trever Adams.

Asheville (25-21, 72-44) surged back ahead in the game with a leadoff home run by Harold Riggins to make it a 4-3 contest.

Cone's 15th blast of the season in the sixth inning tied the game once again, but Asheville managed to regain the lead a half-inning later on a Taylor Featherston sac fly to center field that plated Brian Humphries.

After Drew Robinson singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth, Trever Adams flew out to right field, helping set up Deglan's dramatic home run โ€” his 10th blast of the season โ€” in the final at-bat of the game.

The Crawdads and Tourists continue their four-game series Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest at L.P. Frans Stadium.
