Catawba County's week ahead

The district attorney and a local author-historian will speak to Catawba County community groups early this week. Performers will entertain citizens with a ukulele and illusions as the week wraps up. Read on for more of what's happening this week in Catawba County:

District 25 Attorney Jay Gaither will speak at the regular meeting of the South Newton Neighborhood Watch at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 612 South College Ave., from 7-8 p.m.

Gaither will take 45 minutes to speak and field questions from neighbors and see how neighbors work together and for all Newton residents.

Don Barker will speak to the Catawba County Genealogical Society at 7 p.m. at the Catawba County Library in Newton. He will discuss his recently released book, "Conover."

Families with young children are invited to bring their children in their pajamas for singing, playing and bedtime stories at 6:30 p.m. at Conover Station.

Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro will perform at Newton-Conover Auditorium.

The Catawba County Library System will help residents learn to use e-reader devices during a class at the Sherrills Ford branch.
