Catawba County's week ahead

Among many Holy Week services in Catawba County, a new community-wide service debuts Friday night at the Old Post Office Playhouse in Newton.

The Kontras String Quartet, Western Piedmont Symphony’s quartet in residence, will present Joseph Haydn’s string quartet version of “The Seven Last Words of Christ” at 7 p.m. Nine pastors from the Newton area will also reflect upon each of the seven last words of Jesus on the cross. The service is expected to last about 75 minutes.

The service replaces a decades-old noon Good Friday service.
