Staff Writer

Newton, NC – The Catawba County Library is hosting the Newton Depot Authority at their Conover Branch Library on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 am. The Newton Depot is a hidden treasure along the railroad tracks running parallel to North Main Avenue in Newton.

All are invited to come and learn about the variety of things happening at the Newton Depot, including the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum, Model Train Exhibit, and the Alexander Railroad Pavilion, which are all located at the Newton Depot campus. Those who come will get to see railroad and train artifacts, as well as a model train display.

The Newton Depot Authority was established in 1995 and is an independent government entity backed by the city of Newton. As a tribute to railroad history in North Carolina, the Newton Depot Authority established the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum to house a collection of vintage railroad equipment that dates as far back as the era of Reconstruction, when primitive iron rails endeavored to connect the cotton fields of lowland farms to the vast timber interests of the Appalachians.

The Conover Branch Library is located at 403 Conover Station SE, Conover NC, 28613.
