Tuesday night's Hickory Post 48 game cancelled

Tuesday night's American Legion baseball game between Hickory Post 48 at Gastonia Post 23 in Sims Park has been cancelled.

The game will not be made up.

Post 48's game on Sunday with Wilkes County has also been cancelled with no make-up date.

Hickory (8-5, 4-4) returns to play on Wednesday night for a road contest against Henderson County Post 77 at East Henderson High School.

Mitchell trying to become X factor for Hickory Post 48

When you look up and down the list of names on the Hickory Post 48 roster, all of them are familiar to many, except for one — MacLindsay Mitchell.

While he may not be known now, Mitchell could be an X factor for Post 48 coming down the stretch.

BREAKING: Mangum leaving Lady Tigers for AC job

Girls basketball coach Brad Mangum is leaving Fred T. Foard for a former rival high school of the Tigers.

Mangum was approved as a high school teacher on Monday by the Alexander County School Board and also named the next girls basketball coach at ACHS.

Mangum said there was one main reason for his decision to make the coaching move.

Punch, Yount reflect on 1968 College World Series run

Forty-five years after helping N.C. State make it to the College World Series for the first time in program history, Newton natives and former Wolfpack baseball players Dennis Punch and Gary Yount reflected on their team's remarkable run to Omaha.

Punch and Yount were two of three Red Devils who played in back-to-back College World Series in 1967-68.
