The 49ers come off of a 52-7 win against Campbell in the first win in program history this past Saturday at home. The Hawks open their college football season today against Charlotte.
GAME NOTES: Charlotte linebacker Caleb Clayton-Molby will be the player designated to wear No. 49 during today's game.
Charlotte 49ers will receive the ball to start the game.
Matt Johnson with a scramble on the first play of the game. Johnson makes a 30-yard pass early to Austin Duke on about the fourth play of the game.
Johnson connects with Duke again on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 12:20 left in the first quarter. The 49ers march 75 yards in nine plays using 2:40 of the clock.
Johnson is 4-of-5 for 45 yards on the first drive. He was 5-for-5 for 36 yards in a touchdown during last week's opening drive.
Chowan quarterback Cameron Stover sacked by Charlotte's Micah Bryan on third down of the Hawks' second drive. The 49ers get the ball back at their own 47.
Johnson carries the ball up the middle during the 49ers' next drive, but fumbles the ball after being hit by Chowan linebacker Lydell Washington. The Hawks recover at their own 28.
Chowan goes three-and-out and has to punt. Johnson makes up for his fumble on the next UNC-Charlotte drive with a 13-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.
The Hawks get the ball back on a punt, which is fair caught on their own 2. Chowan running back Antjuan Randall tackled in the end zone by 49er linebacker Terry Caldwell for a safety. Charlotte leads 9-0. Chowan now with 4 carries for -13 yards and a long run of 5 yards.
Charlotte marches down the field and gets a 27-yard field goal from Blake Brewer. With 2:38 left in the first quarter, Charlotte leads 12-0.
49ers linebacker Micah Bryan intercepts Chowan QB Cameron Stover on the first play of the next drive for the Hawks.
On the next play, Johnson finds Kalif Phillips on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Charlotte extends its lead to 19-0.
Matt Johnson now 14-of-16, 179 yards and 2 TDs against the Hawks. In the first quarter of both games, Johnson is 22-for-24, 312 yards and four touchdowns.

Charlotte outgains Chowan 233-17 in the first quarter. The Hawks look to get on the scoreboard to start the second.
49ers nose tackle Larry Ogunjobi exits the game after appearing to either dislocate or break his left pinky finger.
Chowan cannot convert on 4th and 13. Charlotte takes over at its own 30.
The Hawks force a three-and-out. Chowan hopes to get its offense going. Only 27 yards so far for the Hawks.
Chowan gets on the board with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Stover to Randall. Charlotte leads 19-7 with 9:13 until halftime.
Mikel Hunter returns the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Charlotte ahead 26-7 with 8:58 left until the half.
Both teams trade possession of the football as time winds down in the first half.

Chowan starts the second half with possession, converting several third downs. A rare double fumble during the drive allows Chowan to keep the ball with a new set of downs.
INJURY NOTE: 49ers linebacker Caleb Clayton-Molby, who was injured in the first half, will not return.
Hawks reach the end zone, but fumble. Terry Caldwell recovers the ball to give Charlotte back the ball.
Johnson records his third touchdown pass for the second-straight week, finding Trent Bostick on a 30-yard score with 5:19 left in the third quarter. Charlotte leads 33-7.
Chowan driven back deep in its own end zone during the next Hawks possession. Charlotte gets its fourth takeaway of the game when Mark Hogan intercepts Stover.
Johnson with his career-high fourth touchdown pass on a seven-yard toss to Austin Duke. It's the second scoring connection between Johnson and Duke in the contest. Charlotte leads 40-7.
Following another Chowan punt, Charlotte drives in Hawks territory as the quarter ends.

Attendance for today's game is announced as a standing room only 16,598. Stadium looks a little empty in the end zone, though.
