This is the first-ever home football game in the history of the program.
Four former Catawba County prep standouts are involved in today's game, including quarterback Matt Johnson (Maiden), offensive lineman Zach Bumgarner (St. Stephens), nose tackle Tanner Fleming (Fred T. Foard) and graduate assistant coach Matt Woodlief (Bandys).
A fifth Catawba County product — offensive lineman Blake Gutberlet (St. Stephens) — is a freshman playing for Campbell.
GAME NOTES: Former Owls center Carroll York is recognized before today's game. York played for the 1946-47 Owls team and attended Tech High School in Charlotte. He also celebrated his 86th birthday at the contest.
Campbell wins toss, elects to receive.
On the second play from scrimmage, 49ers linebacker Mark Hogan intercepts Campbell quarterback Brian Hudson and returns it 32 yards for the first touchdown in school history. Charlotte leads 7-0 with 14:14 left in the first quarter.
UNCC defense really putting a hurting on Campbell so far. The 49ers get the ball for the first time with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half. Former Maiden quarterback Matt Johnson with his first college snaps under center.
Johnson's first pass attempt forces a pass interference penalty on Campbell. Johnson connects with wideout Austin Duke for 11 yards to recover UNCC's first-ever passing play. 49ers drive deep into Campbell territory in the red zone.
Johnson goes 5-for-5 on his first-ever drive for 38 yards, capping the drive on a one-yard pass to Justin Bouis. After a two-point conversion, the 49ers lead 14-0.
Campbell uses its third and final timeout with 5:04 to go in the first quarter. Looks like it's going to be a long game for the Camels.
Foard product Tanner Fleming checks in at nose tackle for the 49ers on with just over four minutes to go in the first quarter.
The Campbell offense finally crosses the 50-yard line, but cannot score. Charlotte takes over at its own 4.
Johnson with his longest pass — this time for 44 yards to Mikel Hunter — taking the ball to the UNCC 48. A 15-yard roughing the passer penalty takes the 49ers into Campbell territory.
Charlotte drives 96 yards in four plays using 45 seconds. Johnson finds Austin Dukes on a 19-yard pass for a touchdown. Johnson is now 8-for-8, 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Campbell fumbles the ball on the opening kickoff. 49ers now working the running back, as the first quarter comes to a close.

Johnson makes his first incompletion - a dropped pass by Dukes near the end zone. 49ers settle for a 35-yard field goal from Blake Brewer.
Campbell offense can't get anything going once again. UNCC takes over on its own 25 and marches 75 yards in 11 plays to score once again. Running back Kalif Phillips caps the drive with a 15-yard run. Niners lead 32-0.
Camels finally able to crack the scoreboard with 2:08 remaining in the first half. Third-string quarterback Dakota Wolf scores from one-yard out. Campbell trails 32-7.
Niners drive down into Campbell territory to close the first half. 14-play, 78-yard drive in 2:08. Brewer adds a 21-yard field goal. Crowd rises to its feet as 49ers head to the locker room.
HALFTIME: Charlotte 49ers 35, Campbell 7
Charlotte starts the second half with the football and drives into Campbell territory quickly. The drives stalls, though, ending on a 40-yard field goal by Brewer extends the 49ers lead to 38-7.
Campbell offense is using a lot of clock, but not gaining a lot of ground or scoring many points. Camels punt again on their first possession of the second half.
Johnson with his third touchdown pass on Charlotte's second drive of the second half. He throws a 47-yard pass to Trent Bostick. 49ers lead 45-7 with 11:36 to go in the third quarter.
Charlotte with its third takeaway of Saturday's game - a Terrance Winchester interception. Matt Johnson done for the day at quarterback. He finishes the game 19-29, 282 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs.
St. Stephens product Zach Bumgarner enters the game at left tackle for the first time for the 49ers with 1:29 left in the third quarter.
Charlotte adds to its lead with a Corey Nesmith, Jr. 33-yard rushing touchdown. 49ers up 52-7.
Nearing the midway point of the fourth quarter. Niners leading 52-7 with third-string quarterback Patrick O'Brien in the game.
Zeb Little recovers a fumble by Campbell quarterback Brian Hudson with 3:58 to go in the fourth quarter.
The 49ers defense stops Campbell one last time to pick up its first win in program history.
