Below is a look at each of the seven Catawba County high schools and their prep volleyball teams for the 2013 season:
Head coach: Hannah Reynolds
Last season: 10-14, lost in the first round of playoffs
Returning players: Alexis Barr, GaoSee Vang, Amber Krenson, and Regan Smith.
New contributors: Daryann Carr and Madeline Smith.
A quote about the team heading into the season: “We have been training hard,” Reynolds said. “We have and will keep working hard. I expect big things this season.”
Head coach: Kelsey Dettman
Last season: 9-15, lost in the first round of playoffs.
Returning players: Chyenne Pump, Krissy Helms, Megan Fair, Brooke Blevins, Chelsey Lamm, Megan Vinson, Cristy Thao and Hannah Houston.
New contributors: Ashlyn Parsons, Karsyn Mundy and Maiong Xiong.
A quote about the team heading into season: “I am really excited about this season,” Dettman said. ‘We didn’t have any seniors last year so we have an immense amount of returning talent, as well as new talent. We went to playoffs last year and that was really exciting. We’re definitely going to work hard to make sure we go back this year too.”

Head coach: Alison Yount
Last season: 19-7, lost in the first round of playoffs
Returning players: Morgan Smith, Emily Simpson, Jamie Cook, Andrea Detweiler, Zoe Fox and Michaela Stallings
New contributors: Kate Hefner, Jenna Shaffer, Majerle Bishop, Nina Cline, Kaleigh Mathis and Jade Brooks.
A quote about the team heading into season: “This 2013 Lady Tiger volleyball team is a great group of hard working girls who have lots of talent and who are showing great potential early on in the season,” Yount said.
Head coach: Anthony Stephens
Last season: 6-12, lost in the first round of playoffs.
Returning players: Rachel Allore, Caroline Miller, Baxley Zagaroli, Faryn Salazar, Abbey Donahue and Sophia Purut.
New contributors: None listed.
A quote about the team heading into season: “We are going to be a very young and exciting team to watch this year, and I am excited to be a part of what could happen with the passion they are displaying in early practice sessions,” Stephens said.
Head coach: Marsha Davis
Last season: 22-5, lost in the third round of playoffs.
Returning players: Hannah Martin
New contributors: Rachel Cook and Holland Laxton.
A quote about the team heading into season: “We are young but they are becoming a ‘team’ very quickly,” Davis said.
Head coach: Linda Richards
Last season: 10-19, lost in second round of playoffs
Returning players: Laneica Williams, Kristen Kaylor and Tasia Chambers are among the starters that are returning.
New contributors: None listed
A quote about the team heading into season: “Players have been working hard, and we are hoping to play well this season,” Richards said. “We have several freshmen that we hope that will help make an impact during the season. All players have been working hard and we hope that continues with the willing to get better”
Head coach: Cheryl Markland
Last season: 24-2, lost in the third round of the playoffs
Returning players: Jenna Boliek, Bailey Cloninger, Breanna Hall, Katelyn Houser, Mallory Hoyle, Marisa Jones, Jodi Kerley, Ashley Markland and Claire Menard.
New contributors: Hannah Bumgarner, Amanda Hall, Kelsey Helms, Larkin Houston and Madeline Morgante.
A quote about the team heading into season: “We are very excited about this group of young ladies,” Markland said. “We have an excellent group of returners on both the JV and varsity teams that saw a lot of playing time last year. Furthermore, we are seeing that we have a great deal of incoming talent that will contribute to a successful program that is already in place.”
