The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a one-year deal with wideout Ted Ginn Jr.
The team officially announced Ginn’s signing on Friday after first being reported by several league sources the day prior.
"We are excited to add Ted to our team," said head coach Ron Rivera in a statement on the team’s website. "He is an explosive player who could help us both on offense and in the return game."
Ginn, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2007 NFL, had spent the past three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
After the 2010 season, Ginn was traded from the Dolphins to the 49ers for a fifth round draft pick.
The 27-year-old Ginn has 161 catches for 2,048 yards and six touchdowns in his career, but is more known for his return ability.
He has 5,178 kick return and 1,099 punt return yards in his career along with six returns for touchdowns.
He is only the 12th player in NFL history to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in one game.
Ginn’s signing comes one year to the day that he signed a one-year deal with the 49ers last March.
Along with return duties, Ginn is expected to compete for the team’s No. 3 wide receiver spot.
