Newton-Conover High School entered this week with $1,068.93 raised for the “Coaches vs. Cancer” charity program.
After Monday night, the school more than doubled its total and neared its goal of $2,500 raised.
Each year, schools across Catawba County participate in events to raise money for “Coaches vs. Cancer,” which was founded in 1993 and created in a partnership between the American Cancer Society (ACS) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Since “Coaches vs. Cancer” was formed, more than $80 million has been raised across the country for the charitable program.
To help with Newton-Conover High School’s effort to raise money for the charity this year, several organizations helped stepped in by donating money, as well as items to be placed up for bid at a silent auction held on Monday night.
