The St. Stephens football team picked up its first win of the season on Friday, knocking off North Buncombe in Weaverville, 20-10.
The Indians (1-7) pulled ahead 13-0 in the first quarter behind a 77-yard touchdown pass from Ky'Rawn Whitfield to Nic Kinson.
Saint's Martin Sutton added a four-yard run in the quarter.
North Buncombe (0-7) got on the board with a safety in the second quarter, as well as a Caleb Gwaltney 32-yard touchdown run to pull within 13-10 by halftime.
Marcus Payne's four-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter, though, distanced the Indians in the game on their way to the first win in the Chris Bunting era.
Hibriten 49, Fred T. Foard 14
The Panthers pulled out to a 42-0 lead and cruised to a 35-point conference victory against the Tigers in Lenoir on Friday night.
Hibriten (5-3, 2-1) tallied 410 yards on the ground.
Six different Panther runners scored touchdowns in Friday's contest, including Jacob Copper, Zac Walker, Daquan Suddreth, Dontavis Caldwell, TiShawn Daniels and Brandon Freeman.
The Tigers (2-6, 0-3) scored two touchdowns in the final quarter to avoid the shut out, including a two-yard run by quarterback Jacob Schmidt and a 27-yard scoring pass from Schmidt to Kasey Sims.
South Caldwell 41, Hickory 30
The Spartans remained undefeated with a victory Friday in Hudson against the Red Tornadoes.
Running back Zac Pollard rushed for 352 yards on 34 carries and five touchdowns to lead South Caldwell (8-0, 4-0). He had touchdown runs of 29, 64, 28, 32 and 50 yards.
Quarterback Matt Williams led Hickory (4-4, 1-2) with 121 passing yards and 71 rushing yards. He also scored a rushing touchdown and threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to receiver Daniel Davis.
Hickory's Jordan Lockhart rushed for 166 yards on the ground and two scores.
