Two local high schools and their students took a pledge to not text and drive.
Hickory High School and Newton-Conover High School students have pledged to put their phones down while driving.
The campaign started as a statewide request from State Superintendent June Atkinson and has reached Catawba County students over the past two weeks. Hickory High School students from the International Baccalaureate classes along with English teacher Rachael Moyer took the “Texting and Driving-It Can Wait” campaign to the Web. Hickory Public School’s Public Information Officer Beverly Snowden said the students made a video project on to show the student body as well as faculty the dangers of texting and driving.
