A goal by Luke Hart with a minute to play lifted Hickory to a 2-1 victory over the rival St. Stephens on Wednesday.
It was the second-straight game that Hickory (13-1-0, 4-1-0) won by a 2-1 margin. They defeated Hibriten on Monday by the same tally.
The Red Tornadoes took a 1-0 lead behind a Carlos Sevilla goal on an Conner Hartman assist.
The Indians (8-5-1, 3-1-1) tied the game in the second half with a Angel Martinez header.
Hart's goal proved to be the difference maker, helping Hickory notch its 13th win and climb to the top of the Northwestern 3A/4A standings.
Newton-Conover 5, Draughn 0
The Red Devils bounced back fromtheir first CVAC loss with a shutout win over Draughn on Wednesday.
Franklin Wepner scored a hat trick for Newton-Conover (5-3-1, 3-1-0), while Jake LaFrancis and Fermin Rojo each netted a goal.
LaFrancis also had two assists, while John Tate and Eli Cordes made an assist each.
Prep volleyball
St. Stephens 3, Lake Norman 1
The Lady Indians picked up their 16th victory of the season with a four-set victory against the Lady Wildcats on Thursday 25-15, 25-23, 16-25 and 25-22.
Jenna Boliek led Saint (16-1, 7-1) with 11 kills and 10 digs. Katelyn Houser added 10 kills and 15 assists.
South Caldwell 3, Bandys 1
The Lady Trojans dropped their 10th game of the season, falling to the Lady Spartans in four sets.
Kayla Champion led Bandys (6-10, 5-4) with 13 kills, four blocks, six aces and 14 digs. Sierra Brotherton added nine kills, nine blocks, five aces, three digs and four assists.
