Fifth grade students from area schools will spend a day learning about the environment with the help of Catawba County Soil and Water Conservation District. Catawba County Schools and Hickory City Schools are partnering up for the Environmental Field Days. The two-day event is located in Newton’s South Side Park in Newton from 9 a.m. to noon. Schools participating in the green event include Oxford, Jenkins, Lyle Creek, Claremont, St. Stephens and Startown Elementary schools.
“The goal is to teach children how much the environment plays a part in our lives,” Randy Willis soil conservation technician said. “The more we can do to protect the environment, the better off we will be.”
