A two-run top of the eighth inning lifted Hagerstown to a 5-3 series-opening victory against the Hickory Crawdads on Monday at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Singles by Hagertown's J.P. Ramirez and Justin Miller plated an RBI each in the inning to lift the Suns (19-15) to the road win.
Hagerstown took a 3-0 lead behind a two-run first and a one-run second before Hickory started to claw away at its deficit.
The Crawdads (19-15) scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning behind a Luis Sardinas RBI single and a Chris Grayson RBI double.
Jordan Akins added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly that plated Zach Cone from third base.
The Suns bullpen, including Brian Dupra, Christina Meza and Aaron Barrett managed to keep the Crawdads' bats in check, holding them to three hits and no runs the remainder of the game.
Hickory and Hagerstown plate the second game of a three-game series Tuesday at 7 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium.
