Fred T. Foard knocked off the defending NWC softball champions, Alexander Central, in impressive fashion, scoring nine of their runs in the final two innings to win 9-1.
The Lady Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning behind an RBI single from Chelsea Wilkinson.
Ashley Oliver helped pace the late Foard run, scoring three RBIs (two in the fifth and one in the sixth).
Mackenzie Dziendziel and Addie Bolick also drove in two RBIs each, while Rebecca Rowe tacked on an RBI of her own.
Foard pitcher Lexi Shubert went seven innings, striking out nine batters and allowing four hits.
Bailey Rhoney suffered the loss for Alexander Central, giving up nine hits and six runs, while striking out four Foard batters.
St. Stephens 4, South Caldwell 0
Third baseman Vonna Wood drove in two RBIs on a single and triple, leading the Lady Indians to their first Northwestern conference victory of the season.
Katie Baker picked up the victory for St. Stephens (3-3, 1-0), striking out nine South Caldwell batters.
The Lady Indians next game is Tuesday on the road against Hibriten.

The Spartans scored one run in the first, one in the fourth, seven in the fifth and two in the sixth on their way to the mercy rule victory against the Indians.
South Caldwell pounded out 13 hits in the game, including a triple and three RBIs from Bryson Bowman.

The Lady Red Devils improved to 2-0-3 on the season with a non-conference victory against the Lady Spartans.
Newton-Conover opens its conference schedule Tuesday with a game against West Caldwell (0-2-1) at 7 p.m.

The Eagles (10-12, 6-4) defeated the Bears (5-20, 2-8) on Friday night in a South Atlantic Conference contest in Hickory.
The Eagles' Kyle Koeneman hit two home runs and finished with five runs batted in to lead Carson-Newman's attack.
Koeneman hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning and the Eagles led by a 5-0 score before the Bears rallied to tie the game at five after four innings of play.
On the mound, Carson-Newman's Daniel Sharp improved to 1-1 with the win while Ryan Fillers earned his third save of the season. For L-R, junior Christian Hicks (1-2) suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman wrap up the conference weekend series Saturday with a doubleheader at Bears Field starting at 1 p.m.
