Bandys won 17 games in a row entering Tuesday’s girls basketball game against Newton-Conover.
The Lady Red Devils made sure there wouldn’t be an 18th straight victory.
Freshman Taylor Petty scored 20 points for N-C (16-3, 8-1), while seniors Shynese Whitener and Kadesha Gibbs added 20 and 19 points, respectively, lifting the LRDs to the rivalry win at home.
Newton-Conover, who is undefeated at home, jumped out to a 13-3 lead, forcing a Bandys timeout.
The Trojans (17-1, 8-1) surged back to get within two points before the Lady Red Devils pushed their lead back to double-digits with a Whitener three late in the first half.
Bandys managed to cut the N-C lead to six points in the second half, but the Newton-Conover margin remained around 10 points for a majority of the half.
Madi Story led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, while Brittany Moss added 14 points.
In her first game back from a back injury, Bandys senior Jesse Story scored eight points.

The Red Devils (11-8, 6-3) held off a potential upset by the Trojans (1-17, 0-9).
N-C overcame a 20-17 halftime deficit to Bandys to win Tuesday.
Josh Ramseur scored 12 points to lead the Red Devils, while Kevin Cline added nine points.
Colton Medlin led Bandys with a game-high 15 points, including 11 points in the second half.
