After successfully earning a playoff berth last week, the dream of a state championship for St. Stephens became a nightmare Friday.
Crest held the Indians to 110 yards of offense, including 70 on the ground from junior running back Jon Sweet. The Chargers collected a 49-0 shutout against St. Stephens in Shelby on Friday, eliminating the Indians from playoff contetion.
After the first quarter ended scoreless, the Chargers scored in three-straight quarters.
Four Chargers — Rhaheim Ledbetter, Michael Gullate, Jerry Currence and Shaquan Ussery — each scored a rushing touchdown in the game. Gullate also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Harvey McSwain.
Indians quarterback Matt Williams struggled, completing 4-of-10 passes for 31 yards. He threw an interception in the second quarter, which was returned 24 yards by Dominique Roseboro for a touchdown.
St. Stephens ends its season with a 4-8 record.
