At the peak of Soldiers Reunion week, Catawba County's community newspaper is giving away some of its biggest prizes.
During Soldiers Reunion Day on Thursday, The Observer News Enterprise invites area residents to stop by the newspaper's tent on the north side of the Court Square.
When they do, they could win prizes, said O-N-E Publisher Michael Willard.
"As always. we invite our friends and readers to stop by the O-N-E tent and say hello to our staff members," he said. "When they do, they can register to win tickets to see the Appalachian State Mountaineers play football this season!"
Willard said that anyone who purchases a subscription on Thursday will automatically be registered for a drawing to win two tickets to an Appalachian State game in Boone during the upcoming football season.
"We will be drawing a winner at the end of the day, but in order to be eligible, you have to buy a subscription to the newspaper," he said, adding any lenght of subscription will make readers eligible for the single game tickets drawing. "We'll also be giving away tickets to see Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours at Sipe's Orchard Home on Aug. 25."
That's not all.
"All new subscribers who purchase a one-year subscription will enter to win two season tickets to see the Mountaineers play in Boone," he said. "Every time the three-time national champs defend their Southern Conference title in Boone this year, you can be cheering on the black and gold, courtesy of The Observer News Enterprise."
The O-N-E will also be giving away other free goodies, including Crawdads tickets, pizzas from Papa Johns.
"Of course we will have copies of the newspaper on hand," Willard continued, "along with free copies of our Soldiers Reunion program and Outlook."
With football season approaching, fans of Catawba County high schools will also want to stop by and pick up The O-N-E's 2011 season preview "Operation: Championship" and posters featuring county teams' rosters and schedules.
"Reunion Day is always one of our favorite days of the year. It gives us a chance to see all of our readers, our friends and neighbors in downtown Newton during the festive celebration of our nation's soldiers," Willard said. "This year will be even bigger and better when w give away tickets for great college football in Boone."
"Please stop by and visit with us," he continued. "We're looking forward to it."
The O-N-E staff will also participate in the annual Reunion Parade.
"Hold on tight to your children The O-N-E bunch is back in our golf carts, and with the crew we have these days, the sight is sure to be wilder than ever," Willard concluded.
