Area residents flocked to the Carolina Theater in Hickory on Sunday for a screening of the area-filmed movie "Pendulum Swings."
The film, shown Friday, Saturday and Sunday, was shot in 86 different locations in North Carolina, including Newton, Conover, Hickory, Morganton and Statesville, among others.
"It's not often that you get to go to see a film that was shot locally and also get to meet some of the actors," said "Pendulum Swings" Director Bill Rahn.
Rahn, who lives in Morganton, was at the Carolina Theater on Sunday along with Reginald Blunt, an actor from the film.
"More films should be shot in North Carolina," Blunt said. "This is a beautiful state, and more films should be done here."
Blunt said he got connected with the film through his involvement at Tri-City Baptist Church, which is prominently featured in the movie.
Tri-City was one of many local organizations to lend a helping hand to
Rahn's "no-budget" film. The Morganton Police Department and SWAT team, for example, were featured in the film.
"A lot of local groups helped us keep the cost down," Rahn said. "The only money we actually put out was for food, gas and hotels."
Rahn said the film used more than 900 different actors and volunteers.
Rahn, who is also the executive producer of the film, created the movie under his production company TRI-RAHN PICTURES. His company "produces films that take biblical concepts and wraps them in dramas that captivate the heart and renew the spirit," according to pendulumswingsmovie.com.
Because of the film's independency, Wes Todd, an actor and promoter for the film, said it can be challenging to promote local films like "Pendulum Swings."
"With locally-produced movies, it's hard to promote yourself other than word-of-mouth," Rahn told a Carolina Theater audience Sunday.
He challenged each attendee to tell one friend about the film.
Sunday's movie-goers also had the opportunity to take pictures in front of a car that was prominently featured in the film.
