Celebrate moms and fund the Catawba County Parenting Network at the same time.
The Parenting Network organized its first fundraising event for April 16 and decided it should honor mothers for their years of nurturing and raising children.
"We are all about moms and parenting," said Susan Lee, Parenting Network director. "This is going to be an uplifting day to celebrate moms, and people can bring their moms."
The event, which is 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Hickory Country Club, will feature Ramona Holloway, of the Matt and Ramona show. Lee said Holloway is bringing her mother and plans to share various stories from their growing relationship.
"Moms: Making a World of Difference" will also feature vendor giveaways, lunch, massage chairs and a live auction of items, such as spa packages, wine collection and jewelry.
"This is a day to focus on moms," Lee said. "Moms need people surrounding them with support."
While this event brings awareness to moms and parenting programs at the network, it is also a time to let Catawba County mothers know this organization is present to offer encouragement when there may not be anyone else.
In addition, Lee said the special event highlights the Parenting Network's job with skits covering various parenting styles.
"It's a cute way to show people different parenting styles and be uplifting," Lee said. "Our whole organization is reaching out to the everyday parent. We are about preventing parents from getting to the point where there is child abuse issues."
To continue to offer parenting classes at no charge, the Parenting Network's 20-member board decided a fundraiser is a good way to keep costs away from parents in need. Therefore, tickets to the event are $30 each, and participants are urged to buy tickets by April 13 to ensure a seat at the event. No child care will be provided.
Anyone can attend. For instance, sons can bring their moms or moms can come with their best friends.

Lee said the organization is planning an event for fathers and a Parent University to be held in the fall.
