All branches of the Catawba County Library will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday because icy roads expected tonight. Catawba County Library branches are located in Newton, Claremont, Conover and Maiden, and in the Sherrills Ford, Southwest and St. Stephens areas of Catawba County.
Patrick Beaver Memorial Library will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and the Ridgeview Library will close at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Highland Recreation Center will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday and all evening classes are canceled.
Neill Clark Main will close at close at 7 p.m. Tuesday and all evening classes canceled.
Neill Clark and Westmont gyms opened as scheduled.
Westmont Senior Center opened as scheduled. Its evening line dance class is canceled for Tuesday.
Ridgeview Recreation Center also opened as scheduled. Brown Penn closed Tuesday, but children are at Ridgeview Recreation Center next door.

Waste crews will not collect garbage or recycling Tuesday. Hickory asks its customers to put out their green trash rollout and blue recycling bin on their normal collection day. The city will pick up garbage and recycling as soon as the weather improves.
Yard waste, junk and white goods will not be collected this week.
Due to the inclement weather, the Hickory Recycling Advisory Board will not meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Public Services Complex and will reschedule for another date.
The Greenway (WPRTA) Board of Directors retreat previously scheduled for Thursday is canceled. Ed Clifford, Greenway executive director, is out of the country and was scheduled to return Tuesday. However, because of the winter storm, his flight was canceled, and he will be unable to get a flight back until Friday. A new date and time for the board retreat will be determined early next week.
