A single vehicle accident, Wednesday on a busy street in Newton closed the road for an hour and injured a dog.

Jonathan Fulghum was driving his Jeep Cherokee east on West 7th Street Extension near Little Hill Road when he reached down to use his cell phone.

The Jeep drifted off the right side of the road. Fulghum’s attempt to re-gain control of the vehicle forced it across the center line, across the lane of on-coming traffic and up an embankment east of Westlake Drive.

Fulghum’s Jeep continued across the embankment until the steepness of the hill rolled the vehicle over several times.
