Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith signed a 3-year, $18 million extension in April.

Now, he is putting that money to great use.

Smith pledged that he will make a $100,000 donation to the survivors of the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

Smith released a statement Thursday regarding the generous donation.

"As a father and husband I cannot imagine the pain and suffering the victims are going through," he said. "My family’s hearts and prayers are extended to theirs, and I hope this contribution might assist in paying some of the medical bills that will help allow these families to move forward in this tragic circumstance."

During his career, Smith has 10,278 receiving yards, 699 catches and 59 receiving touchdowns.

Smith caught 79 passes for 1,394 yards and seven scores, becoming the team's all-time leading receiver.
