What if it happened in Catawba?

About three miles south of the Catawba County line, a 12-year-old girl waiting to board a school bus early Tuesday morning was approached by a man who asked her name, among other things, before inviting her to go with him.

Deputies in Lincoln County say that man was Ernest Carroll Rose of Vale, who has been chraged with felony attempted child abduction in the case and placed in jail under a $75,000 secured bond.

The girl alerted authorities by fleeing to a neighbor's house and calling 911.
