Watchorn dies

Long time local bank president Thomas Watchorn, 64, died Sunday at his residence in Cornelius.  Watchorn came to Newton after Loyd Mullinax retired as long time president of Citizens Savings and Loan Association later Citizens Savings Bank.

Watchorn was prominent in Newton business and civic affairs and later left the city to undertake a new career as a banking consultant to the financial industry in Russia, following the downfall of the Soviet Union.
