Volunteers sought for litter-removal effort

April 10, 2012

Transportation officials are urging Catawba County residents to help in a statewide effort to reduce trash along roadways.

The spring 2012 Litter Sweep begins this weekend across North Carolina, as volunteers, city officials and state workers will all pick up trash on roadsides.

The big sweep is a bi-annual event driven by the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and local residents interested in volunteering should contact the local NCDOT office.

“The NCDOT spring Litter Sweep is a great time for North Carolinians to get involved in community beautification,” said Transportation Secretary Gene Conti. “It’s an event that allows us all to work together, taking pride in the beauty of our state’s roadsides.”
