Bullet fires through Catawba home PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gina Lindsey (O-N-E Staff Reporter)

A shot pierced through the Evelyn Shoemaker’s living room window Thursday afternoon leaving police with questions as to why.

Shoemaker was in the kitchen of her home at 6057 Hudson Chapel Road in Catawba when it happened.

“She heard what sounded like the shatter of glass, but she didn’t know where it came from,” Maj. Coy Reid with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Department said.

When she discovered the broken glass about 8 p.m., she immediately called police.

Reid said it’s possible it was a stray bullet that wasn’t intentionally directed at 65-year-old Shoemaker.

“She had no enemies,” Reid said.  “Some of these people out here don’t need a reason to do it.”

Police canvassed the homes Thursday evening asking neighbors if they had seen anything Thursday night, but so far, Reid said they have found no witnesses.  Officers hope informants will be able to find out more information.

The only damage was to the window itself.

If police are able to charge someone with the crime, Reid said it would be a felony offense of shooting into an occupied dwelling.
