After raising almost $100,000 more than his competitor, Daniel Johnson secured a place on the Nov. 6 ballot with 60 percent of the votes cast in District 10 Democratic primary.
The U.S. Navy Veteran received 10,698 votes in the county, while Harvard Business School graduate Steve Ivester had 4,211 votes, totaling 34 percent of the votes in the county.
Overall, Johnson garnered 60.23 percent of the vote in U.S. Congress District 10 out of 67,437 votes.  Across the district, Ivester received 39.77 percent of the overall votes.
“I’m real excited about it. It’s very encouraging to have that much support heading into the (general) election,” Johnson said.
He said there is a lot to do before the next election.
Johnson will face incumbent U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry in the upcoming election, who beat Lance Sigmon in the Republican primary.
“I will take a deep breath and a step back,” he said, before working to broaden support.
Johnson said he has yet to determine exactly what his strategy for the general election will be.        “I just think people really responded to our message,” he said.
