McHenry takes GOP's District 10 PDF Print E-mail

With more than 60 percent of District 10 voters in his favor, U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry won the Republican primary after Tuesday’s vote.
The win saw him carry all the counties in District 10, including the hometown of his opponent Lance Sigmon.
He will go on to battle the Democratic nominee Daniel Johnson, who won the Democratic primary against opponent Steve Ivester.
“This will be a battle between competing ideas and will be focused on the issues," McHenry said.
McHenry said that some of the issues that he will focus on in the general election will be illegal immigration, taxes, “what we can do to help small businesses” and gas prices.
Sigmon said that he will be getting “back to work” after the campaign, and that he was disappointed with the results.
“We were obviously disappointed with the results, we thought we would do better in Catawba County," Sigmon said. "We will go back and re-evaluate the results."
McHenry, in return, said he was proud to carry all the counties in the district.
"To win all 10 counties, it’s a real boost," he said.
He also said that he will continue "voting consistently in a conservative manner  ... these issues are central to why I’m a member of Congress."
McHenry claimed the win at 9:34 p.m. in the evening.
