UPDATE: Teen in intensive care following wreck

April 18, 2012

Three teenagers were transported to hospitals following a Wednesday afternoon wreck on a curvy road in Vale.

Daniel Bolick, 19, of Vale, experienced critical injuries, was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, said N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper R.G. Griffin.

Bolick was in an intensive care unit Thursday morning, according to a Baptist Medical Center spokeswoman.

He was one of two passengers in a 1988 Ford sport utility vehicle driven by 17-year-old Trevor Omara, of Vale. Coty Blanchard, 18, of Vale, was the other passenger.

Omara and Blanchard were both transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center following the wreck.

Omara drove the SUV off the right shoulder of Gracie Lane in Vale, and the vehicle overturned, Griffin said. No other vehicles were involved.

Griffin said evidence from the wreck scene and statements from witnesses indicate Bolick was thrown from the vehicle.

An investigation continues, and charges are pending for the driver, Omara.

“No alcohol was involved,” Griffin said.
