UNC: LB Lipford out for season with knee injury

July 19, 2012

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina linebacker Darius Lipford will miss this season after injuring a knee ligament for a second time.

Team officials say Lipford injured his left anterior cruciate ligament Thursday during a rehab session. He is scheduled to have reconstructive surgery in August.

He originally injured the knee during the Independence Bowl last December.

The junior will redshirt this season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Lipford had 42 tackles while starting four games at outside linebacker last season.
