Unanticipated flash flood strikes county

Flash flooding from a severe thunderstorm Saturday damaged many residences, businesses and roads roads throughout Catawba County.

The unanticipated stormed started with rain approximately at 4 a.m. and did not let up till the afternoon hours Saturday.

Fire and rescue crews in western and central Catawba County were deluged with requests for water rescue assistance as people became trapped in their vehicles and homes by rushing water.
