Newton-Conover High School's athletic director will soon leave the post.
Ericia Turner, who has served as NCHS' AD for three years, accepted a job directing athletics in the Alamance-Burlington Schools system.

“This job just came along,” Turner said. “Once I learned about the position, I got excited about it. I thought it was a good position for me. When I got selected, that was my confirmation.”

Turner has tendered a 60-day notice to Newton-Conover City Schools (NCCS).

Aside from her tenure at NCHS, Turner also has ties to Bandys High School, where she guided the Lady Trojans basketball team to state titles in 1987 and 1988.

During her career, she also taught and coached at four schools in the Charlotte and Winston-Salem areas, including Andrews, Parkland, Independence and Mallard Creek.

NCHS will now seek a successor to Turner, and NCCS has announced the opening and a March 30 application deadline on its website.

Meanwhile, Turner said it is time to move on.

“Better opportunities come around and you’ve just got to move,” Turner said. “I have to do what is in the best interest of my family. I’m a single mother of two. This is a good move for me, a good opportunity for me and my family and I’m just taking advantage of the opportunity.”
