Truck overturns

August 19, 2010

A dump truck fell into a ditch Thursday and overturned after its driver attempted to avoid a collision.

The truck was traveling on N.C. 10 west shortly before 3 p.m. when a vehicle in front of the driver stopped on the roadway.

The driver, whose name wasn’t available as of press time Thursday, didn’t have time to stop and turned the wheel to the right in an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision. T

he Mid-State Contractors dump truck ran off the roadway, fell down an embankment and overturned. The driver was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Emergency responders from Catawba County EMS and Newton Police and Fire departments arrived on the scene to find the truck was leaking hydraulic fluid.

No one else was involved in the crash. Emergency workers shut down portions of N.C. 10 west to allow a tow truck to remove the dump truck from the ditch.
