Trojans face Salisbury tomorrow in the Regional semifinals for
the second straight year.

The Lady Trojans basketball team will face a familiar opponent tonight in Greensboro, when they take on Salisbury.

Bandys (27-3) faced off against the Lady Hornets (24-1) in last year’s Regional semifinals. Salisbury won that game, 45-31, and eventually the state championship.

The last two seasons, the Hornets are an incredible 53-1. Their only blemish in those 54 games was a Nov. 22 loss to Butler, 60-50.

Leading the charge for the Hornets is 6-foot-3-inch freshman Brielle Blaire, who is second on the team in scoring per game (10.5 points) and first in rebounds (10), and blocks (3.1).

Also leading the team are a talented trio of seniors, including point guard Ayanna Holmes, forward/center Olivia Rankin and power forward Jessica Heilig.

Holmes is third on the team in scoring (9.8) and leads the team in assists per game (4.2).

Rankin, who stands 6-foot-2-inches, leads the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game and is third in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game.

Heilig averages nearly a double-double every game with 9.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Holmes and Rankin are signed to play for the University of Charlotte 49ers next season. Helig signed to play for Gardner-Webb.

Ashia Holmes, another Salisbury senior, signed with Radford University.

Leading the Trojans on the season are Madi Story (17.4 ppg) and Jesse Story (17.1). Jesse is the leading scorer in the postseason for the Trojans, averaging 18.7 points in three games.

Senior Tara Potter is averaging 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in the playoffs.
