Toilets, cabinets stolen from home

Owners of a vacant house found the structure flushed of its bathroom and kitchen amenities on Sunday after thieves stole toilets and cabinets.

Newton police say suspects stole toilets, a heat pump and kitchen and bathroom cabinets from the house at 1205 Old Conover-Startown recently.

“This is not the common (breaking and entering) that we have,” said Newton Police Major Kevin Yarborough, adding that the incident was a unique situation because of the items stolen.

In addition to a commode, toilet and cabinets, the thieves stole a stovetop oven, heat pump, air handler and lavatory cabinet.

Allen Dale Kepner, of Dade City, Fla., owns the home, and found it broken into on Sunday after checking on the property.

Yarborough said there have been other break-ins involving metal, copper or wire larcenies, but he said this theft is unusual.

“The stovetop, oven and heat pump are very valuable items,” Yarborough said. “But it’s mostly scrap metal that can be sold to someone that can re-install it or use it again.”

Police have not identified any suspects in the case.
