When Nick Rotenberry's hand was raised on Saturday, history was made yet again at Fred T. Foard High School.

Rotenberry's 13-5 major decision against Morehead's Cameron Sanders helped the Tigers clinch the 3A dual team wrestling state championship.

Saturday's title win gives Foard its second state championship in a boys sport — both coming in wrestling (2011, 2013).

"The boys did great getting bonus points," said Foard coach Mike Carey. "Even the three matches we lost, those were last-second losses by one point each. This just shows you that if you put the time in and show some guts that you can compete with anyone."

Rotenberry summarized his team's dual team championship season as being members of a giant family.

"It's like being part of a brotherhood," he said. "It felt great to go out there and reach the goal that we have been working for the whole wrestling season and offseason."

Foard 138-pounder Ben Hughes was named the 3A dual final's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Hughes, who is one of four Foard senior wrestlers (Ben Pitts, Mikey Vincent, Rotenberry), earned a victory by pin against Morehead's Will Dabbs.

"It's amazing to reach the goal that we have tried to reach the last four years of my high school career," Hughes said. "I didn't expect to get Most Outstanding Wrestler. I just did what I had to do to win and do what I could for my team."

Tiger teammates Trevor Cook, Caleb Bumgarner, Cameron Wilfong and Dylan Curtis also earned pinfall victories.

Saturday's victory by Foard was the second time it had beaten Morehead on the mat this season. The Tigers took down the Panthers 35-15 on Jan. 12.
