February 19, 2012

Fred T. Foard added a second-straight 3A West Regional title to its program's history on Saturday.

The Tigers scored 159 points on their way to the Regional championship, qualifying seven wrestlers for next weekend's state championships in Greensboro in the process.

Two Tigers — Ben Pitts at 132 pounds and Hayden Albert at 160 pounds — also scored individual titles in their respective weight class at the regionals.

Foard teammates Caleb Griffin at 120 pounds, Jeremy Fredell at 145 pounds, Trevor Cook at 152 pounds, Zack Edwards at 195 pounds and Nick Rotenberry at 220 pounds also qualified for the state championships by making it to the final four of their weight class.

Fellow Northwestern 3A/4A team St. Stephens also had a good showing at the regionals.

The Indians finished sixth in the teams standings, picking up individual titles with 113-pounder Bradley Bader and 138-pounder Ian Martin.

Both Saint wrestlers, along with consolation winner Blake Rogers, will appear in Greensboro next weekend, as well.
